Getting about It is not necessary to hire a car in order to enjoy Carcassonne. If you fly to Carcassonne Airport (served by Ryanair from Stansted, EMA, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Bournemouth, Dublin, Shannon, Cork, Charleroi, and Frankfurt-Hahn) we are very happy to collect you (subject to availability), so that you need not worry about transport. From May to September the town provides a free "Agglobus" service to get you about within the Bastide. Simply hail an empty one as it passes and say which side of the Bastide you want to get to. There are also services between La Cité, the Bastide, and the Lac Cavayere. If you do want to explore further afield there are train services running East/West taking you to explore the beautiful and cosmopolitan "pink city" of Toulouse, Narbonne - ancient trading crossroad of the south, and Perpignan with it's moorish influences. Car hire is practical if you want to visit ski resorts, castles, or go exploring off the main routes. If you don't want to commit in advance or pick up a car at the airport, we can arrange car hire with excellent service at a very competitive price from the local UCAR provider. Food and Groceries Food, groceries, fresh bread and patisseries are available from the shops in the Trivalle and also from the market and supermarkets in the Bastide (10 mins on foot). There are hypermarkets near the airport and also on the main road heading east (2 kms from Les Troubadours). If you would like us to provide some groceries for your arrival please ask. Eating out Both the Bastide and La Cité are well served by bistros and restaurants including chinese and vietnamese cuisine all within easy walking distance of Les Troubadours. Prices range from 12 Euro for a lunch time meal with a glass of wine, to 50 Euro for a gourmet meal in one of a growing number of world class restaurants. Eating In The kitchen at Les Troubadours is well equipped with the essentials you need to prepare and cook all the delicious ingredients you bought at the market. (Market days are Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday in Place Carnot). No one wants to spend the first day of their holiday chasing round for dishcloths, tea towels and washing up liquid so we provide those. The cupboards also have a modest supply of salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, herbs, garlic, sugar, sweetener, filter papers, and often some tea and coffee too. Equipment for children For the comfort and safety of our younger guests we provide a variety of equipment which you can request on your booking form. Technology (how could we be without it!) Les Troubadours is deliberately "low tech". We want to take you away from your workaday life and let you rediscover the peace and relaxation of bygone times. That said, being able to keep in touch with the folks back home brings its own peace of mind so for those who bring their own computer we provide WiFi access to our high speed line. For those who don't, weather reports and flight checks are on us, and there are also internet cafe's within walking distance. Picnics and Trips to the Beach For your comfort and convenience we make available towels, beachmats, and a coolbox for trips to the lake and to the beach. We are also happy to re freeze your ice bricks ready for the next day. Romantic Weekends in low season We're always happy to help you personalise your stay with extras to please and surprise your loved one. Flowers, chocolates, gift selection, restaurant bookings, theatre tickets, outings, perhaps a meal for two organised and ready for you to serve yourself on arrival. In fact, anything you could reasonably want to make your weekend perfect. Please call to discuss your requirements. Help when you’re here We live next door to Les Troubadours and are available to help with practical matters and local knowledge anytime you need it. Any questions? Thank you for your interest. Please call us with any questions and to check availability. We will reserve your holiday for a short time pending receipt of your Booking Form and Deposit. |
